authorship is a birthright
I remember the birds I watched from the window
when I lived between the books
the freedom of creation spoke to me
in dewy mornings at preparatory school
libraries still remind me of a time where education had
a softer way of
love - the will to write
found me, as my friends felt
around for their first passions in accepted discordance
I mourn the intimacy
of meeting your purpose before
you realise that the world was as big as they said:
but big enough to restrict,
big enough to hate,
big enough to cast shadows
it is a serendipitous thing that the swallows
showed me shadows
were nothing to fear but
a sign you’re living a story to rival
all creation
with your beautiful signature
the world is wide enough
for you, darling
please live by your literature
